Our investigators examined 20 pheasant cages and found 18 of them were barren. Of the other two ‘enriched’ cages, one had a green ‘privacy’ curtain; the other contained a single brick. Inside one of the cages, a bird lay dead. A dunnock was trapped Inside a cage trap nearby.

Action: On 29 May 2018, Animal Aid reported the breaches to Powys Trading Standards and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) Wales, and also to the RSPCA on 30 May.

Trading Standards took no action. APHA said it inspected the farm but will release no further information. Animal Aid is still trying to ascertain the outcome of that visit.
