Animal Aid investigators filmed at four producers where scores of thousands of pheasants and partridges were confined in battery cages. (Bettws Hall in Powys, Heart of England in Warwickshire, Hy-Fly in Lancashire and Pye Hall in Suffolk.) The birds in the cages suffered a high incidence of emaciation, feather loss, and back and head wounds. Many pheasants lunged repeatedly at the mesh roof in a forlorn attempt to escape.
